We were having a bit of a hard week when someone close whispered this bit of advice: Do something special, one of those things you have always wanted to do with her but never have the chance. Enter, homemade playdough.
It’s quick, it’s easy, it’s fun.
We had an hour before lunch and nap time, so I asked if she wanted to make a special toy. Her bright blue eyes lit up. “Special!”
I brought out the ingredients and she stood on a chair next to the counter eagerly waiting to touch, first just with the tip of a tiny finger, and then with the thrust of a whole toddler hand that just can’t wait to test a new texture.
We brought out the rolling pin and the cookie cutters and I showed her how to model the dough, how to cut shapes, how to play.
That whisper in my ear, to do something special…it was just what we needed.

Instructions
Mix together flour and salt in a bowl.
Mix together water, food coloring, and essential oil in a separate bowl.
Slowly mix liquid mixture into flour and salt mixture and stir. You may need to kneed with your hands to fully incorporate.
Notes
Note: If your playdough is too sticky, add a pinch more flour until it is the proper consistency. If it is too dry, add a few drops of water until it is the proper consistency.
Store in a sealed container, glass jar, etc. for days or even weeks of fun!
I use these amounts to make a single color, then repeat to create additional colors in separate bowls.
